Scamora: piloting AI scam prevention with Malaysia's National Anti-Financial Crime Centre
On 21 November 2025, the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC) held the Scamora Pilot Deployment Session and Closing Ceremony in Putrajaya. It marked the end of internal testing for Scamora, the AI-powered anti-scam application Leogics built after winning NFCC's problem statement at MYHackathon 2024.

Why scams, and why NFCC
Online fraud is growing fast in Malaysia. According to Home Ministry figures given in written parliamentary replies, losses to online fraud rose from RM1.57 billion in 2024, across 35,368 reported cases, to RM2.97 billion in 2025.
NFCC is the national agency for this problem. It operates under the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre Act 2019 (Act 822), and it is part of the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), set up on 14 October 2022 to coordinate a rapid response to online financial fraud. The NSRC brings together NFCC, the Royal Malaysia Police, Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, banks and telecommunications companies, and runs the 997 hotline.
What Scamora is
NFCC describes Scamora as an AI-powered mobile application designed to enhance public awareness of financial fraud by consolidating various agency initiatives within a single, integrated ecosystem. The application combines three things:
- Real-time scam detection
- AI-guided incident reporting
- Community engagement tools

What a pilot deployment means
A pilot is a controlled first deployment with the organisation that owns the problem. In NFCC's account, the pilot deployment programme marked the completion of internal testing, during which the application was refined based on evaluation results.
It is not a nationwide public launch. The closing session also looked ahead: NFCC reports that its Director-General and representatives of the MYHackathon 2024 organisers discussed the future direction of Scamora.
Why it matters for our clients
Scamora followed the path we recommend to every client: start with one clearly defined problem, build with the people who own it, test with real users, and refine before scaling. Delivering that with a national agency is experience we bring to every commercial project.
