Leogics wins MYHackathon 2024 Cohort 2 with an AI scam-alert solution for NFCC
On 10 December 2024, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and its agency Cradle Fund named Leogics Solution one of five winners of MYHackathon 2024 Cohort 2. Our entry answered a problem statement set by the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC): using AI to warn people about online financial scams.

What MYHackathon is
MYHackathon is Malaysia's national hackathon, run by MOSTI through Cradle since 2020. Ministries, agencies and local governments publish real problem statements, Malaysian teams propose and prototype solutions, and the winners are funded to turn them into pilots with the agency that owns the problem.
That last part is what sets it apart from a typical hackathon. Each Cohort 2 winner receives a conditional grant of up to RM250,000 to develop a pilot project, plus one-to-one project implementation mentorship for 12 months, and works directly with the problem statement owner.
The 2024 edition in numbers
- Theme: “Hackathon Nasional Untuk Malaysia MADANI”
- Two cohorts, launched on 23 September and 25 November 2024
- 12 problem statements from ministries, agencies and local governments: seven in Cohort 1 and five in Cohort 2
- 810 inquiries and applications in total: 419 for Cohort 1 and 391 for Cohort 2
- Five Cohort 2 winners, announced at the closing ceremony at the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), Kuala Lumpur, officiated by YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation
“I am truly impressed by the quality of ideas and solutions presented. The innovations highlighted are not only practical but also align with the needs of the country’s digital transformation.”
Our problem statement: AI scam alerts
Leogics won Problem Statement 3, owned by NFCC: “Solusi Teknologi Pencegahan AI Scam Alert bagi Pencegahan Jenayah Kewangan Atas Talian”. In English, that is an AI scam-alert technology solution for preventing online financial crime.
Our answer is Scamora. NFCC describes it as an AI-powered mobile application designed to enhance public awareness of financial fraud by consolidating various agency initiatives within a single, integrated ecosystem. It brings together real-time scam detection, AI-guided incident reporting and community engagement tools.
The five Cohort 2 winners
- AERIAL WORKS: harvesting fresh fruit bunches from oil palms taller than five metres or on hilly terrain, for the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB)
- BeyondVISIBLE: detecting the ripeness of fresh fruit bunches on palms taller than three metres, for MPOB
- Leogics Solution: AI scam-alert technology to prevent online financial crime, for NFCC
- Electserve: a smart city dashboard with street lighting management and waste-collection lorry monitoring, for Tanjung Malim District Council (MDTM)
- VL JEJAK: intelligent AI monitoring and operational collection detection, for the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp)
What happened next
Winning was the start of the work, not the end of it. In 2025 the Scamora programme was carried out in collaboration with NFCC, with an onboarding session and a three-week programme for NFCC staff, and the pilot deployment closed in Putrajaya on 21 November 2025.
